Kind of my second time here, the first time was brief and hopefully this time won't be so. I registered the first time back in March 2010 and was considering a 147. I never bought one, nearly bought a 1.6 with tan leather interior but got beat to it.
Anyway the itch never went away. I am looking to buy either a 159 2.4/1.9 diesel or a GT 1.9 diesel later on this year or early next. (or I might buy a CLK too
). Will have to test drive to see which I end up with. Anyway I am not getting that just yet due to finances but have seen a 96 Spider 2.0 TS and because I have got bored with my Rover 25 which was supposed to be a short term car.
It has 96k on and looks in reasonable condition with no obvious body work rust. It does have a few scuffs and marks on the paint.
The roof is manual and seems to be OK if not perfect. Red car black leather.
Obvious faults are the instrument dash illumination is none existent.
A nasty chip on the bonnet next to the grill. Car is up for £1600 through a dealer, he will fix the dash lights (hopefully just a fuse).
I intend to use the car [bizarrely] over Winter to replace the Rover. My thoughts are come Jan/Feb I will be in a position to afford the newer car and if I do take to this car I will keep it for weekends and maybe spend some decent money to make it a much nicer car.
Anyway I am off to look for common faults on the forum but if any of you have anything I should look for then please post up
. I am also looking at another 147 1.6 with the tan leather (I believe) tomorrow just to make sure that, that is not the car for me. If it is not and I get to look at the Spider again I may well end up putting an offer in.
I suspect the Spider will be my first choice, I have fancied an open top car since hiring a EOS earlier this year, oh and my brother has a CLK convertible. Also being on Rover/MG forum I have given some thought to an MGF/TF but the Alfa Spider scratches two itches and for £1600 quid is bloomin cheap.
