156 2.0 T-Spark

As above. Hello. Im John and ive just bought a alfa 156 which ive always wanted since bein a kid. It all started when i bought a model RC car which had a 156 cover. I spent aaaaaaages paintin and puttin the little stickers on and i really fell in love with it! So now im old enough ive finally bought 1!

Its done 83000 miles and runs sweet as the 'ol nut. Tho bein an alfa, it does have a few alfa-isums. The rear windows just do not work, no noise no nothing. ABS light is on and im replacing a leakey steering rack this weekend. o and its got a private reg on, which i hate.

This is my first alfa and coming from a mini and metro scene, im not quite use to any spec or trim level so if you guys can tell me anything about my car it would be a real interest!

and this my other car, the worlds only supercharged metro...which is broke at the mo!

There's a metro scene!?

That's a nice looking 156, looks like a Veloce - sports exhaust, side skirts, carbon fibre effect console, orange on black dials. If so it should also have "sports suspension" (whatever that actually meant), although I'm not sure if Veloces came with leather (maybe as an option - mine had the cloth Recaros). The massive hoop spoiler was a separate option, never standard on any trim level. You've got 16" teledial wheels on there, and that paint colour is called "grigio chiaro".

That's a pre-facelift model - later on the black plastic bits became colour coded, the centre console got revamped, and JTS (direct injection) engines replaced the twin spark. Later still, Giugiaro restyled the front end and the rear lights.

Two important things to know: the cam belt interval is 36,000 miles or 3 years - not 72k as Alfa UK initially claimed. If you're in any doubt, change it immediately - they frequently fail beyond that, as you'll find reading this forum. Second thing is that the twin sparks are thirsty for oil, check it frequently - mine used to go through the best part of a litre every couple of thousand miles, though they do vary.

Mine had a rear window fail in the way you describe, and it was diagnosed as being the actuator - not sure if that's and easy DIY job or not.

Anyway, good luck getting it sorted out, and welcome aboard!
