Alfa GT JTDm

Well Happy Newbie to World of Alfa's

hi guys,
first impression of this site is very good, seems like there are alot of friendly, helpful people on here.
i currently got a nissan s14a, running about 300bhp.
this is no longer good to me as i am doing at least 40 miles a day driving.

i really like the alfa gt jtd, (black with red leather).
i sat in one of these in a garage the other day, they are so comfy and feel so well put together.
i fell in love straight away, i want a diesel as i am doing alot of miles these days and i know they still have good potential for tuning.
i dont see many of these cars on the road and thats another reason why i love them.
i do keep hearing horror stories about alfas always breaking down, is this still true these days??

i am looking to get one of these with under 100k miles on the clock for less than 5k.

does anyone have any good or bad feedback about these cars before i go buy one.

only other option i was thinking of was a seat leon fr tdi, these have very good engine and do better MPG, but are very common and lack the wow factor that an alfa has.

Welcome, The Gt's soooooo pretty

The old chestnut about Alfa's being unreliable is pants, dont listen to it, its an old stereotype from years ago

Good luck on the hunt for the perfect Alfa

The GT is the best
But I'd say that - now wouldn't I?

Welcome to AO mate!

'08 GT JTD Q2

Hey there Marky89,

I went ahead and took the plunge 2 months ago.

Was a VAG user in both petrol and diesel forms and I won't complain about the cars or their performance. But recently I changed jobs and a car allowance was thrown in, so I thought ... if the company will let me have anything I want,... then I want something that's gonna be sporty AND stylish AND with good fuel economy AND with practicle usable space AND which is fun to drive, and, and.

Hell, I wanted it all. So the only car that really fitted the description was my new '08 GT - JTD Q2 (with 68500kms(42500miles) on the odo) in silver grey with charcoal interior and red stiching.

In the last two months I have put 7000kms (+4300miles) on her with nothing of significance to note, apart from the good drives I've had.

And one more thing, after 2 months I still get a smile on my face and a skip in my step, when walking up to my GT.

Also see this thread if you are concerned about the fuel economy.

~~Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent~~

'08 GT Q2 JTDM. -~- '07 Fiat Panda Climbing
'12 Renault Megane dCi 1.6.
'04 Smart Roadster. -~- '82 Porsche 924 (on going project).
'05 Buell XB9XS CityX.

You can buy hp ... but you're going to drive ft.lbs.

I too have a GT Q2 ( a rare beast if you can find one!)

Mine had 60K when I bought it in March. She now has over 68K and is going strong.

Check service history, check the service history and then check the service history! At that age and mileage you need proof that the belts have been done, as well as the water pump.
Other than annoying rattle that can be sorted, and chocolate suspension components, the car is a cracker!

Buy the right one and enjoy.

Don't worry about the GT, I have had a 1.8TS Blackline from new and have had no mechanical issues whatsoever.

It is all about the service history, if that is good, then you should be fine. I think there is also a buyers guide on the forum, may be useful for you.

The engine on the JTD should be fine, suggest you check out the engine threads on the forum.

As for 100K / sub 5K, I am sure there is a car out there somewhere. Bear in mind, you only get what you pay for. If you can afford to put in another couple of thousand, it will give you so much more to choose from.

It may be worth looking at the 1.9JTD GT Blackline. This variant was released in 2008 by Alfa (due to a change in factory) and as such the last few hundred cars out of the factory were highly specced and offered at a significant discount.

These would come with 18" teledials; carbonio black metallic; full leather; Bose; etc etc.

A final thought would be to estimate the purchase price and estimated fuel bill (for a given period) of both the petrol and diesel GTs. It may be that a petrol GT is a better option if you only intend to run the car for 18 months or less.

Anyway, hope you find something.

Alfa GT JTDm

thanks very much for your info tok78, im going to look into the blackline model.

i really do think it will be worth me getting a disel as i do alot of miles. i do at lease 270 miles a week.

another quick question, is the model with red leather a specific model, this is the one i really want. the black and cream leather look ok, but the red leather is so rare i love it.
