Hi, to all who are up and about this time of day. This being my first post, after being a frequent visitor to the site few years. Got hold of an Alfa 156 Sele Y reg with 34k on the clock and an arm full of previous owners, all probably with the intention of trying to fix a precocious Alfa. but alas no, came with no gears able to be selected without a huge crunching and shuddering that frightened the life out of anyone within a hundred yards. Dropped box + actuator to find primary shaft and all its friends fall out on the garage floor, A number of cracked gears and a load of bits . Why or how this could happen I still don't know to this day. Replaced box and got hold of another actuator, spent a few days "getting to know" what my new friends were about, and refitted.I can tell you there is no other way to really know this cracking bit of kit than have the unit on the bench and the tech info at hand. To end I have now returned from the 4th mot since I got the car and again it flew through ,now mileage stands at 61k (same as my age!)and I can honestly say this car always gives me a wry smile every time I press the happy peddle.
Old school was great, but I drive a real car now.
