Ciao Alfisti! I've only gone and done it! (Again.)
Hey all. I've come back to the fold! Since owning a bellissimo 146 (with the punchy Boxer engine), I strayed from the Alfa path for a few years - but for a month now I've had an Italian mistress in the shape of a cracking 159 Sportwagon 1.9 JTDM Lusso in Carbonio Black. With black leather interior. Scorchio! And boy oh boy is she fun. And oddly practical.
In fact, that was the clincher. As much as I wanted to return to the Alfa fold, I ruled one out due the lack of a practical estate (having two under-5s and wifey). How wrong was I? After much research (a lot on these boards - I now have a frankly silly amount of shortcuts to all sorts of useful threads from you knowledgeable Alfisti) I was pretty much sold on a Jag X-Type or a Merc C-Class estate (mama mia, I know, I know...) but when I realised the 159 SW had the same boot dimensions as the Jag, the Alfa was right back in contention at the top of the list. The deal was done.
With a pram and associated gubbins fitting in the boot, two child seats in the back, (fingers crossed) I haven't regretted the decision. OK, it's not the roomiest 'estate', (unlike my recent Honda Accord estate), but I wanted something really engaging for head, heart and eyes to drive. And I got it alright. In fact, calling her an estate does her a disservice. Just need to bide my time and get a DPF/EGR removal and a remap! Avanti avanti!
