Mito paint vs ARUK
Hi everyone! I'm new to the site although I've been reading the forums on Mito/Alfa Red Paint issues for some months. Bought a Veloce 1.3TDI in Alfa Red in Oct 2009 and have been in battle with Alfa ever since about the chipping issue. I've got case numbers and been to both the dealer and ARUK.
I initially accepted the fact that it might be wear and tear as we piled loads of miles up and down the M6 over the first few months, however it now sits on our drive from Monday-Friday and the mileage is almost back to a "normal" level for an 18 month old car. Every time we clean it, there are more and more chips appearing.
The dealer passed me onto ARUK who got the dealer to take photos - not even a proper physical inspection. They then came back with the "Stone chips aren't covered by the paintwork warranty" line. I pushed back with a "not fit for purpose" letter which got them moving a little. They got an independant paint shop to measure the thickness. Their report stated that it was of the correct thickness for the EU standards however they agreed that there was a level of stone chipping to the paintwork "above normal wear and tear", as well as stating that there was chipping up the windscreen arms and on the roof!
I was encouraged by this, but today received an email from the dealer saying this comment is irrelevant as there is no way of telling how and where I have driven my car paritcularly given the extreme winter we had this year and the amount of grit on the roads... ARUK maintain that the paint is consistent with a factory finish and can not assist me any further with this issue.
I am furious. I love my Mito, but I'm bitterly disappointed that I cannot seem to get anywhere with this claim. I paid £14000 for my car, with the extra on the Alfa Red paint and the Supagard (what a rip off that is!). Ironically if I'd gone for the free Black colour, it probably would have less chipping!! I have read all of the forums and am at a loss as to where to take this next. Those who have had resprays seem to have used the same tack as me, so are there any suggestions as to how to "persuade" ARUK that they need to take this seriously. They've even had the cheek to let me know the cost - to me - of getting a full re-spray. Do I need to go legal, or will kicking back eventually do the trick?
I know there's been a million posts on this, but I'd really like to know what makes the difference to get that re-spray and what percentage of complaints have success eventually.
