I just picked up a used Alfa 159 Sportwagon - my first Alfa for many years. Historically, back in the '90s, I'd owned 3 previous Alfas in succession - a 3.0 75; arguably the last of the 'real' (I prefer the term 'traditional') Alfas and a cracking good drive (when it worked
). A 3.0 164 one of my favorite cars - smooth, quick and very stylish in it's day. Both these cars of course had the wondeful 12-valve 3.0 Alfa V6, one of the most characterful engines ever produced. Both were modded with ANSA exhausts and sounded utterly sensational! I then had a 156 2.5 V6. Lovely car but had lost some of the soul of the older models. Still an enjoyable drive though...
I bought the 159 to use primarily for work as I needed something that could carry occasional bits and pieces around (usually computers in boxes) have space for the family mutt and do quite a lot of miles visiting customers etc. (As you'll see from my signature - my other vehicles don't exactly allow for much of this)!! The Alfa is the best looking estate car by miles (and drives well too) making day-to-day travel a more pleasurable experience!
It also came with a reminder of how frustrating Alfa ownership can sometimes be too. I'm just off to Mangoletsi (does Fraser Hudson still own Mangos?) now to have a creaking/groaning front suspension/steering issue looked at (I'm guessing it's one or more of rack-ends, track-rod-ends, upper or lower ball joints from the sound of it). Here's hoping the dealers are more switched on than they use to be!
Anyway, a big hello to everyone. I hope to get as actively involved in the Alfa forums as I am in those for the other cars I own. I'm also a serial modder of cars (it's an addiction I need treating for, I'm sure) so I might have some stories to tell as the bug bites again with the Alfa..
