To GT on not GT

Welcome all,

I have recently parted with a 325i (E46) 51 plate when it came worst off when greeted with a Renault Espace. so the hunt for a 1.9 GT begins, but for every 5 people I speak to at least 4 say don't do it. I was also on a car survey site which literally had bad review after bad review.

So my newbie question is how can such a beautiful car be the devil incarnate. and coming from the 325i sport which gave me no end of bother is my wallet likely to be taken out on trips to the pub with the spare change or permanently on the desk of an Alfa mechanic asking me for ridiculous sums of money for no end of repairs....

My heart says do it (just take out extra warranty), my head says get a Vauxhal Vectra and enjoy being mistaken for a mini cab.??

Any opinions most welcome.

Just do it. Depends which sites you are looking at, but on, what car andparkers it comes out rather well I think. I love my GT - it's not perfect by any means but hand on heart the best car I have ever had by a mile.

Thanks all!

Well so far the advice I've got is:

make sure it has full service history
its had the cambelt changed (with a service receipt)
Take out additional mechanical warranty preferably AA
check the gears are smooth
and there are no rattles

If all is well then the car should be a go-er

so thanks for the warm alfa welcome and I hope to report back that I took the plunge and it was the right decision!
