Former Alfa Owner - please can I come back?!
I used to drive 147s then moved across to BMW. I'm looking for a new car and absolutely love the little MiTo but I have just started to have a very long daily commute (160 miles 4 times a week) and am not sure that the MiTo would be able to cope with that or if it is even remotely practical for the journey. I've been offered a deal on a 1.4 Multiair Veloce but I don't know if this is a sensible car bearing in mind the length of my commute. Does anyone have any thoughts? I test drove the 1.3 and 1.6 diesels and thought the 1.3 might not be quite nippy enough but was told that the 1.4 multiair easily outperforms the 1.6 diesel (which seemed pretty perky) but I'm not sure how much more of a fuel bill I would have with the 1.4 given that it's a petrol engine. Has anyone been buzzing around in one to have a good idea on things like economy, reliability, comfort over long journeys etc? In the two I tried, the ride seemed quite firm for a long slog and the rear cabin space seems to be a bit squashed. Presumably carsharing would be out on a commute of this size in this car?
The alternative looks like it might be another BMW (useless in the snow) or a Vauxhall (a bit on the boring side). Can anyone help with some advice here?
Very much appreciated - I miss my old Alfas :-(
