I'm Steve (best always to start with the simple stuff) and I have a weakness for vehicles with that something special that sets them apart from the bland normallity! Generally flip flopping between Italian and the quirkier side of Japanese bikes and cars. I don't own an Alfa, and never have done, but I think I'd like to!
I very nearly bought an Alfa about 3 years ago. I owned a Ducati 748 at the time, and I loved its character and style. Having just got enough no claims on my 21 year olds driving licence to afford to insure something more exciting than my 1.3L Skoda, I quite fancied a 916 GTV. I was all set to go look at some, then I went for a ride in a friends MGB.
It was one of those summer evenings that make owning a soft top the best thing in the world, so there an then I decided, forget the GTV, I wanted a spider, I wanted a 105 Spider as I was learning I liked the raw-ness of older cars. But realising it was out of my price range really, I looked at other soft top small options and ended up with an mx5.
Now I love my mx5. It's taken me on a long journey from someone who knew very little about cars, to someone who's a self confessed car geek, who spent all of last year chopping his mx5 to bits to fit the Wankel engine from an Rx7 into it!
The end result is such an amazing car to drive, but I had a problem! Between starting and finishing the project my millage went up two or three fold! I'm now often doing 500+ miles a week and the rotary engines do about 18-20mpg at best!
So I decided the mx5 needs to be sold, I need a new project for weekends and a car to drive daily that wont bore me to death while I do the project.
Again I came very very very close to buying a 105 Coupe to restore but, in the end, a friend had the perfect car for me to restore. A 1984 Rx7. Its got loads of character and is very rare, one of only 6 known in this original colour in the UK. And it needed plenty of love and care! Cheap at £300 too :P
The mx5 is up for sale, anyone wanna buy it? haha As soon as it's sold I need a car to drive while the rx7 is in bits.
Once again I'm drawn back towards Alfas. Specifically the 2.0 TS 916 GTV. So yeh, errr 'hello!' I've already read a few bits on here, like the Spider and GTV buying guide and I'm hoping to do more research so I can go shopping with my head and not just my heart!
Sorry it's been a bit long winded!
