Another newbie in Durham
Bloody hell - there's a lot of us about, although tbh I'm not really new to Alfas.
In the snows before Christmas someone took a big gouge out of the full length of our dear old 147 - we suspect it was done by the bucket of the gritter as it was a really narrow but very deep scratch which caught on the driver's door, pulling off the handle. The culprit obviously stopped and left his details (aye - righto) and Admiral wrote the car off within a nanosecond of getting the quote from the body shop.
Anyhow - it's an ill wind, and after driving around in an ancient purple Fiesta with the heater jammed on full, no handbrake and wipers which were only intermittent in the sense that they decided when they were going to work and for how long - not me, I decided enough was enough.
Wasn't initially looking for another Alfa at all, but one caught my eye at a little 2nd hand car place in Durham - a 147 2 litre 02 Lusso, but only 54k and fullish service history for £1800. Intrigued but a bit suspicious I turned up only to be told they were putting it back into auction cos the gearbox was knackered.
True enough the gear box wasn't clever at all. If 3rd was as elusive as the Scarlet Pimpernel, then reverse was positively Lucanesque and not to be found at all, but it felt like the linkage rather than the gearbox itself and aside from that it drove beautifully. So I took a punt ... and happy days, it was just the linkage !!
So after an admitted un-cheap visit to Lyles to sort out the linkage and get everything checked over, I have a sparkly new (to me) 147 ... which I park at the back of the house and not on the front street !
Wish I'd signed on here and heard about the garage in Ferryhill - I'll try them for the list of advisorys given to me by Lyles. Do Quicksale open on Saturdays does anyone know ?
In the meantime I'll look out for you all at the Asda car park in Stanley !
