New member from Cape Town, South Africa
As the title suggests, I reside in Cape Town, South Africa. I came across this forum while searching for Alfasud info and saw that there are quite a few Saffers registered. Looks like a great forum and I'm looking forward to being a part of it.
I've had a love affair with Alfa Romeos since childhood and have a particular passion for the, often maligned, Alfasud. My first car was a 1976 series 1 Alfasud 1.2 purchased in 1983 for the princely sum of 250 Zimbabwe Dollars (yes, the Zim dollar was once worth something). It was a South African manufactured car and sold new through the local Zimbabwe Alfa Romeo dealership (can't remember the details). I then had a succession of Alfasuds from S2 1.5ti's through to a 1982 S3 Superhatch with the "Veloce" motor.
There has been a long gap in Alfa ownership since 1991. However, about 5 years ago I started looking for a good condition Sud only to find that there were almost none left in SA. About a year ago, I finally tracked down a really good restored '78 S2 ti which had been converted from it's original 1200 motor to a 1500 twin carb motor. And then a few months ago I came across a stripped and race prepped Alfasud of unknown vintage which I intend to put back on the trac sometime this year. By coincidence, the original 1200 motor from the Sud I purchased a year ago was included in the basket of spares I purchased with the racing Sud! I will keep you all posted on the progress of the racing Sud but it is not going to be a quick project, rather a "when I have time" project.
