Thumbs Up Brand Newbie - Alfa Brera wannabe

hi all,

as you can see by the title of the thread, I'm seriously considering the most exciting, probably least sensible purchase of my car buying life!

I have previously owned a red P reg 145 and a pale blue S reg 156. Both were bought on looks alone. They weren't that bad to drive and own aswell.

For the past year I have considered buying a Brera. No amount of Which review or consumer satisfaction survey could put me off. However, I was looking for what we all strive to find....a bargain!

This would be my last chance to own a true sports coupe for a number of years - my youngest ar 7 and 8. And by the time they were old enough not to want to come in the car with Dad, I'd probably be too old to sling myself in.

Unfrotunately my dithering backfired on me. The family wore me down about getting a dog. And so poor, rescue mutt Diesel, part Boxer, part something else arrived and blew my Brera out of the water.

The time had come to think of something more sensible, more practical. And thats how I've ended up with VW Toerag. And boy do I hate it. Not only that but I have to lift his highness into the boot!

So I've been thinking to myself, I might as well lift him into the boot of a Brera.

glad to be on board, hope I can get some good advice

Hello and welcome to AO.......a very touching stop messing about and go with your heart and get yourself a Brera, put a massive smile on your face just looking at it, let alone drive it........

Wave Brera - diesel or petrol?

Thanks guys for the welcome.

My first hurdle is to sell the Toerag - more snow please! Its on ebay with a large number of watchers, value c9k and an offer to swap or p/ex up for a Brera, although there currently seems to be a pretty poor stock of them for sale. If I'm adding money I need the Alfa to be less than 3 years old (so says the kind loans person in work).

I would appreciate views on the most appropriate version for my particular needs:
I have a 40 mile daily round trip
I do 14k miles pa
My 2 youngest are 7 and 8
I have a largish dog

Speed and power are not my main priority; reliability and lower running costs are

Feel free to tell me I should be buying a Sportwagon!!
