Newbie Looking For Fun With GTV!

Hi, I've finally managed to persuade my wife that she needs a new car and that she would love a GTV or Spider (not an Audi TT!). Whether she'll ever get to drive it is another matter as i've been dreaming of owning a V6 engined Alfa ever since selling my last Alfa, a 75 Saloon!

We've looked at a couple of late 3.0 GTV's this weekend. One drove beautifully but had a whistle or high pitched whine which the owner said was coming from the tranmission, but not an issue. Anyone any ideas about that?

I have not had any issues with Alfa's in the past, but I don't want to start now! Italian engineering seems to work for me as I own an old Ducati motorcycle which I love as it's full of character.

Needless to say, if anyone knows of a good late car, give me a shout! I'm off to look through the forum now as I need more info about how to choose a good car!

Gary & Samantha.

hi, welcome, iv just bought a gtv v6, great car, mine hasn't got a whine though, could be anything, thrust bearing/clutch or gearbox, could be expensive, though may be worth making a sensible offer

Welcome Gary. My only advice would be to buy on condition rather than age or service history. Look for the following expensive jobs to have been done recently (in no particular order):
clutch, exhaust, rear spring pans and cam belt.

On the whole, they are well built, reliable and great value.
