Help Is replacing ECU with a second hand one possible/recommendable?

Hi All,

I need advice on replacing the ecu/immobiliser. Can I replace my existing ecu/immobiliser (who just kicked the bucket) with a second hand one (local scrapyard has an 04 standing around, will that do me)? And is it recommendable to do so? Would it have to be the same year/type or would any 147 ecu work? It would be nice not having to spend +500 on an old car...

The car is an '02 147 petrol 1.6 manual transmission.

I think it's difficult as the keys etc would need to be re-coded. I'm sure someone else will produce more info on this.

Welcome to AO by the way
