Hi, new member looking to buy 3.0 V6, advice sought.

Hi everyone, first post here so let me tell you a story....

My wife has been wanting a nice little 2 seater convertable for some time now, she had looked at the Audi TT etc and of course I did my best to tell her that we couldn't afford one, where could we park it etc..... until today. We were having a meal at a restaurant when we went outside for a cigerette ( I assume it's okay to say we smoke on this site ??? ) and sat there in a little court yard was the most beautiful yellow convertable, it was a 2002 3.0 V6 6 speed, one owner, 25,000 miles, just had cambelts & pullies done, pinaferoi ( spelling !! ) 4 pipe exhaust system, good tyres, not a single chip or scratch on it etc up for sale at £6500 !!!

It was love at first sight for me and my daughter but the wife is unsure about the colour and thinks it'll be too fast for her, of course I lied and said it wouldn't be that fast and would be quite economical if driven sensibly, well once we have it, it'll be too late won't it.

Now what exactly should I be looking for/at with this model ? any hints, tips, links etc would be grstly appreciated, how much is servicing, seen a couple on ebay that say the clutch has been changed, one at 30,000 miles !! is this normal ? What did they cost new ?

is this a GTV or a GTA or what ?

Many thanks in advance.

It was a GTV. The most recent GTA's were the 147 and 156 and neither were offered as a convertable. I haven't got a clue about prices to be honest and a GTV owner will be along shortly to tell you what to look for.

I nearly forgot, Welcome to AO

Hello andd welcome to AO......the car you saw will have been a 916 Spider, the convertable version of the GTV......both great cars.....but I'm biased......
Plenty of help and avdvice if you do a search in the tech lounge and in this link.......Alfa Romeo Spider Buyer's Guide
Hope you can convince the wifee, you could look for a 2.0 litre TS variety......... :Hmm:

Well thanks for all the replies, in the end after a lot of soul searching we didn't buy it as it was mainly for the wife and she thought it was too powerful and didn't like it in yellow, I loved it !!!

As it would be a second car and I already run two big motorbikes we thought it wouldn't get much use and have left it but if anyone here is after a superb low mileage one I can pass on the details to you, it's based in Swaffham, Norfolk, call me on 01508 520563 as I don't check my e-mails al that often.

Cheers guys.
