Why has it taken me so long to get here!!!
Hi Guys and gals
I rediscovered AO this evening and thought I should register as I have had very good experience on the self-help, advice and news website for owners of Vauxhall Omegas (my daily car).........
I have a very original 1974 Giulia Super 1.6 (RHD) which started life in Malta and currently has only 32,000 miles and is completely unmessed-with original - never had a radio or mirrors fitted (just how I like them!)
Owing to previous owner mechanical neglect we are in a few pieces at the moment, blocked radiator caused overheating, but the post-mortem also revealed a bodged repair to the inlet manifold behind the thermostat - the whole area seriously corroded and actually crumbling!
Could not find the identical manifold secondhand, so found a couple of guys who have done a brilliant repair: machining from solid and then welding on the new piece .... the join will be invisible under the top hose. I have had the radiator re-cored and got the guys to add a drain-tap, because they were deleted on the later cars (along with many other minor but desirable features!) In due course this will be a really fine example of the model, assuming I get a Round Tuit and can spare the cash for all the other jobs that I ought to do at the same time while the underbonnet area is in such disarray! Talking of which.......... did you know that Jaguar had a problem a few years ago with engine fires, which were referred to as an 'underbonnet thermal event!'
Anyway, even if you have read this far, you are probably getting bored by now, so I will stop rambling and hope that you like the pics that I have attempted to upload/attach here!
