intermittent intermittent selespeed failure in traffic without any warning lights
Hi I'm new here, I have a alfa 147 2.0 selespeed and have enjoyed 4 years of enjoyable trouble free running. ( have done nearly 78,000miles) Over the last 8 weeks I have had 4 instances where the gearbox seizes up in neutral, and no gears can be selcted. Always happens after driving in slow traffic, and usually when coming up to a traffic light or roundabout - no warning lights appear at all. If left alone for about half hour the car will start up and work perfectly for weeks, only to reccur again. Have changed Alfa dealers, twice- first one wanted to replace ECU by ECU - which I refused. the second one adjusted the brake switch after replacement - ran sweetly for two weeks only to happen again in heavy traffic - (7 miles in half-hour). The computer diagnostics does not detect any faults. Inbetween these failures I can drive up and down on the motorway - I drive about a 150mile round trip to London and back with no problems ( as long as I dont get stuck for prolonged periods in traffic)
it sounds like the pump is failing intermittantly - Once I had just driven into the Alfa garage when the gears failed - was pushed into diagnostics still no diagnosis!
Would really appreciate any expert help or advise from any other who have had a similar problem
Many thanks - really love my car which is otherwise in mint condition, and dont want to get rid of it
