Phase Sensor Problem
I am a newbie here and am an Alfa 156 1.6 TS Lusso Sportwagon (52) owner. I have had the car for 2 years with no issues until recently when the timing belt went - oh no! 1k miles after timing belt service was due - my fault I suppose.
I made the big decision to get the repair carried out with all 16 valves damaged, & £1200 later job done. I got the car back and was happy with improved fuel consumption, although poorer acceleration I think. Anyway a few weeks later the car wouldn't start and ended up getting a new immobiser unit (£140). Back on the road again and all good..... .....until 'Motor Control System Failure' message appears. Got diagnostics at Fiat garage and was told the error related to the Phase sensor and a £350 bill to replace was quoted. Airbag light error removed in between times (£52), and new battery (£57) in case the MCSF message was just the battery - read that here somewhere. So £1,449 later and another big bill pending - thinking I should have written the car off when timing belt went?!?!
The car has also slipped into Limp Home mode twice (once tonight), the first time it was resolved the next day - I will wait and see what happens tomorrow.
Can anyone tell me if this sounds like the Phase Sensor and if the bill quoted is reasonable, and what the danger and risk is if I don't get the job done and just keep driving. Also, if the keep driving option is feasible, is there any way to suppress the error message and warning lights.
Many thanks in advance, Neil
