Toyota MR2

New member

Hi all,

Been into mr2's for the past 3 years but always been looking at the 156's.

Just wanted a little info from u owners.

Been looking at a few and the price seems to dance about from just short of 1k upto about 4k.

Interested in a selespeed, love the idea of a paddle shift system with a lazy auto box for long motorway cruise. Either a 2.0l or 2.5v6 ideally.

What are these like to live with, are they really as bad as the press suggests?
Im handy with a spanner, done tons of work on my 2's and swapped out pretty much all of the mechanical bits on mine without much trouble, and chased electrical bugs around too so I know my way around a car.

Are there any specifics I should be looking at when going to view them?
Any other general info on what these cars are like would be great.

Cheers all

Welcome to AO. Selespeed can be very expensive to repair, personally I'd go for the 2.5 V6 manual..... But I'm biased perhaps. But in my opinion the Alfa V6 is one of the nicest sounding engines around. They pretty quick too for a heavy car.
0-60 in just over 7 seconds for a standard and top speed of over 70mph so I've been told. :-)
