Looking at buying a 147 1.9 JTD Turismo - advice required

Hi, I am a new member to this forum and am looking for some advice....

I need a small car, cheap to insure, tax and run. I have been looking at 206s, 306s, Focuses and can't get enthused about any of them

Yesterday I have seen a 2004 8v 147 JTD Turismo and l loved it to bits.

However it has no service history at all and it's done 105,000 miles.

It's cheap enough but I am seriously worried about buying a car with 105,000 miles on the clock with no service history.

Questions are:

1) If the cambelt snaps, is this engine interference? (i.e will it bend valves?)
2) How difficult is it to change the cambelt and tensioners / idlers?
3) How many miles are these 8v JTD engines good for?
4) Are there many aftermarket suppliers of parts for these cars / engines that make running it affordable.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Best regards,

Get it and change the belts, tensioners and water pump the same day.

just do this, sort the suspension and enjoy... if properly mantained, these engines can do a lot more than 105k.

Hi Tom

Also new to the forum but not to Alfa

My friend has a 03/03 147 done about 135K and had very little problems with the car.

Do Oil & filter every 10-12K cambelt every 72K and if you are not shore it has been do. do it any way.

All motor factors stock 147 bit.

Never done the cambelt my self but there are some great alfa indpentant dealer in you area.

hope if you go for it you enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed my Alfa Romeos
