I am the partner in crime
of 2 Black Lines on here. His Alfa is a 24v GTV. We have a few (well too many really!) cars between us, but of late I have struggled with economy on my current daily driver a Nissan Stagea.
2 Black Lines has been searching for a more economical mode of transport for me in the form of a 2001 156 Sportswagen, and its a Veloce
. At this point I need to let you know that price was a very major factor in our search for something - and non runners were featuring heavily. We did look at Golfs, Polos, Seicents and other things but there was a calling for an Alfa
The car was advertised on ebay as having oil spilt from the sump and now wont start. We always knew that we could be jammy or not (having been so with the Stagea - sold as needing a new engine and so far driven about 1000 miles with a new head gasket - car going great!)
Picked up car last night - absolutely filthy inside and out - the grey leather momo seets looking rather sad, not to mention the muddy sides of the doors and the scabby wheels where the oil was splashing through when on its last journey! The car comes with an mot and wads of receipts for large sums of cash that had been spent on it!
This morning we eagerly put a booster pack on the battery to see if it would start - nothing, then on close examination we found a small hole in the sump
and a much larger one in the block
. We had known that there would be a high chance of the engine being scrap but we lived in hope!!
Today spent steam cleaning, t-cutting and polishing the car, inside and out (still more to do) and then take the head off and examine the damage inside. It was a case of WOW!! (see pics)
Hope to get a new engine in the next few days, pop that in
(sorry power unit in Alfa manual terms!) and have a very tidy smart reasonably economical car
PICS OF SOME OF THE CARNAGE FOUND SO FAR!....... No conrod yet
and the biggest part of piston (with bit of piston ring) is the chunk of metal beside the spark plugs that have been stripped of their tips!
.... and the car taken when dirty
