Newbie says hello and asks - should I buy a 147?
I've owned quite an interesting selection of cars in the past (everything from a Peugeot 205 GTI to a Porsche 944 to a Honda Integra Type-R) and I'm currently teetering on the brink of possibly buying my first Alfa. Which is why I have ended up here..
I have a budget of about £3500 (well, the bank might loan it to me) and I'm currently toying with the idea of a Mk4 Golf GTI Turbo, Seat Leon Cupra or a Toyota Celica VVti. While I can make cases for wanting all of them, the looks and the high spec of an Alfa 147 keep putting it at the top of my list.
However, while I REALLY want a black 2ltr 147 with red leather, bose speakers and supersport alloys (and have seen some within my budget), the reputation scares me!
I've looked on the forum and read that belts, water pump, variator and suspension parts can be a problem (or need to be changed frequently) and found the 'how much has your alfa cost you' thread. Both of which put me off. I'm hoping you guys can tell me some nice things to stop me being all sensible and rational and just go for it!
So, Hello! If all goes well, I hope to post again soon with something to show off!
