199 Alfa Romeo 156 Fusebox Problem!!
Hi guys, seriously in need of your help, advises, expertise....
I'm (was) a proud new owner of a 1999 Alfa Romeo 156 2.0 Selespeed. I just had it last week. It was an instant attraction and I knew I must own it when I test drive it. Everything was smooth sailing until I installed a CD player into it (there wasn't any audio player previously).
The mechanic told me the wires inside were all messed up. I guess it's the previous owner's responsibility. Wires were exposed and the cigarette fuse caught on fire when the CD player was turned on! They told me it's because of the exposed and messy by-passes of aftermarket wires in it. A part of my fuse box was burnt off, which is believed to be linked to the cigarette fuse. When I drove back, the air cond failed suddenly and the car temperature went up above 90, then back to slightly below 90 then up to above 90 again... perpetually.
I called an auto mechanic to come over to have a look (I did not dare to drive the car), and he said he needed to pull the wholde dashboard out to trace the whole problem and rewire it if necessary. He told me it's going to cost a bomb so I told him just taped the exposed wire, fixed the air cond and practically make it safe to drive, which he did. Then as soon as he left, I drove it back to my driveway which is just a reverse left turn. As I put on my left signal light, POOF, the air cond, car signal light, power window and wipers all failed together instantly. I pretty much suspect is the whole wire and fuse box thing. Talking about bad luck!
I've then made a booking to sent it to an Alfa Romeo dealer to check it out. My question is, do you think it's worth paying to fix it? I'm contemplating hard in selling it off. I paid 8k for the car with almost new 17 inch vault rims @ 158,000 km. The interior and exterior is in good condition. I do want to keep it because Alfa Romeo just add so much character and style to the driver. I don't know much about cars and this is my first car. PLEASE HELP!~
