Good day all.
At last I'm (nearly) an Alfa owner, why has it taken so long?
I first fell in love with an Alfa back in the early 70's, it was as far as I can remember a 1300 GT junior, does that make sense? It was for sale in a used car dealership on the old A3 out of Guildford, toward London, before it was all dual carriageway. The salesman clearly did not want me to buy the car as he did all he could to (successfully) put me off, suggesting at one point I'd be better off with an Escort he had! Maybe he was keeping the Alfa for himself!
Many cars have passed since then, some company cars many privately owned. Some 15 years ago I got hooked on diesel engined cars, a couple of Citreon BX's (great cars used to annoy Golf GTI owners!
), then a Citreon Xantia (did 160,000 miles!). At this point I was doing a lot of work dealing with the motor trade, and when I visited my Alfa customer, when the 156 was introduced, I fell in love immediately, but it has taken all these years to actually go out and buy, now a 159.
What am I driving at the moment? Ah! Now those of you who have an interest in the fuel consumption of the 159 JTD 1.9 may well be interested to know I am just coming to the end of 3 years with a Saab 93 1.9Tid 150! I already have some thoughts, theories and findings, give me a couple of weeks and I will post some comparisons.
