First Post: Sebring Days of Yore
Otay....said I need to post to make the annoying 'do your first post' header to go away. here 'tis:
i only joined the alfa club usa and their Mid-atlantic group this week. and only just now found this forum ...up to now it has been a good life.
anyone experience the 12 Hours of Sebring from the legendary Alfa corral this year?
been more than a few since i have gone down...too darn long! i remember as the sun went down on race day, taking the ladder to the top of a rv - only to find a community doob being passed around and, from that much higher vantage, watching the race car lights, hellbent down the ol' landing strip, pouring down on us. there were some great alfas and alfaistas in attendence that w'end and much fun was had by all.
i think. of note, there was a red and somewhat rusty Montreal in the corral. i also remember our taking the alfa non-scca racer we towed down and driving it to the gate guarding the race paddock, after revving the motor up to the stratosphere, the guard had no reason to doubt our credentials. it was nice in there. (anyone ever notice that there are only "10's" in those high altitude areas? that has been the same at any race at which I have been lucky enuff to score "behind the gate" passes.) after leaving there, we went on a high revving tour of the infamous infield. and yeah, eventually we were corraled by the local authorities. nice guys. but we are much calmer in our dotage.
anyone in the sc, nc, georgia area want to begin the planning for taking an rv down next year? suggest we need at least two generators.... for the ice. heck, we need a Road Atlanta infield trail run or two. Roebling being too tame for a test run. ? Atlanta Petit LeMans? P1...GT1?
