Did you collect the car? I have been waiting 5 weeks and still waiting for due date.
First impressions of the Alfa?
Well I've come from a 2006 Audi A4 2.0TFSi Quattro S-Line so to compare the two...
The Audi had a nicer gearbox with smoother more precise changes, whereas the Alfas 'box feels a bit 'wooley' when changing...
The Audi had a vastly better stereo (bose)... the Alfas stereo seems to lack detail and sounds rather too bass'y for my liking... I've only played around with the settings while driving so maybe I can improve the sound with some finer adjustments of the EQ.
The Audi had better build quality... again this was no surprise to me, but I am still impressed with the Alfa. I think the build quality of the Alfa is about the same as where Audi where 10 years ago.... which is still good.
The Audi was faster... but the two are not really comparable engines. The Alfa is quick enough, and im impressed as its my first diesel. Will be looking to get it remapped though.
In almost every other department the Alfa is better... looks (of course) interior styling... steering... The Alfa is much heavier and comunicative where the Audi always felt too over assisted.
The seats in the Alfa are a big improvement, supportive yet comfortable. Although the heating controls could be better placed.
But the biggest surprise to me is how good the Alfa's ride is... The Audi tended to crash around and easily get unsettled over bumps mid-corner, but the Alfas ride is proberly the best I've come accross! (car before the Audi was a 335i BMW and until recently a TVR Sagaris) It manages to dampen out bumps while still remaining taught and on-line... I was expecting the 19inch wheels to struggle with rough surfaces but it seems to squash any bumps in the road as if they were not there.
Overall the Alfa is the better car... the Audi managed to do everything you wanted it to but it never excited you in the way the Alfa does, and to me that alone makes for a more enjoyable experience.
