Sketches amongst the ruins of my mind

Forum name:
Diablo

Real name:
Adrian M Bell (The 'M' is really important - without it I'm just A Bell)

Age:
38

Occupation:
Technical Architect. Yes, this is apparently something to do with computers, but doesn’t mean that I can fix your printer, install your wirelss hub or get you a free copy of Office.

Lives:
London

Marital Status:
Engaged to the lovely Caroline. She who screams on tunnel runs.

which cars do you drive and why?
Alfa Romeo Spider 3.2. I bought this car because my old Gtv had a red leather interior and I was only prepared to give that up for a spider that has a similar colour scheme. Plus I'm probably having a mid-life crisis. I hope.

Are you a real passionate for Alfa Romeo?
I must be, considering that I am sitting here at 2:18am on a Wednesday morning, filling this in.

What or how started your passion for Alfa Romeo and…
….do you think it’s fundamental to own one to have the passion?

A mate of mine owned a 33 Perm 4 and I liked the sound of the engine. Then a young lady who I was seeing pointed out a Gtv to me one day and I looked at my Rover 220 Coupe and realized that I had no taste in cars! I don’t think you have to own an Alfa to have the passion – but they get under your skin.

Would you ever consider joining an Alfa Club or are you already a member of one?
Well I’ve signed up to the AlfaOwner and paid my subscriptions…

What do you like most about Alfas?
The looks. The sound. The fact that they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. The fact that ownership gets people talking! The fact that most people have a story to tell about an Alfa they have owned (or driven have by when it's broken down…. )

What do you like least about Alfas?
Those obvious comments you get from people who have a bad opinion of the brand, but have never owned one…

What would be your dream cars?
Obviously the 8C spider, but I’d settle for an Aston Martin DB9 or a Lamborghini Gallardo

What car would you least like to drive?
Anything that wasn’t an Alfa (or the above!) BMWs and Audi are a pet hate though - soul-less.

For you, what’s the most popular thread on AO?
I obviously visit the ‘London’ lounge a lot, as well as the Brera & spider lounge. I find myself pining quietly for my Gtv and so visit the Gtv lounge too.

What would be your ideal drive in an Alfa (destination, passenger, driving music, etc)? [/B]
Italy, Jessica Biel, Just the sound of the engine!

Any humorous Alfa or car-related stories you wish to share with us?
The alarm on my GTV P1 woke me up one night – screaming! A visit from the AA man ended with the entire alarm being dismantled down to the siren, which was promptly wrapped in an old quilt, put in the wheely bin and wheeled down to the end of the road…. It was still going off about 6 hours later.

What interests do you have outside of Alfas?
Computers, anything that I shouldn’t be doing (shh don’t tell Mrs Diablo), NLP, Hypnotherapy, drinking, eating and sarcasm.

Tell us something nobody knows about you. (E.g. special skill, ever been on TV, etc) I met a famous chef in a club one night – the conversation started with a discussion about a lapdancing club and ended with him getting his old chap out. (No, I don’t mean his dad!)

Do you have a party trick? If so what is it? Schoolboy conjuring and generally meddling with people’s minds…..

What do you like most about the Alfaowner forum? Any favourite threads, episodes or people?
I've met a couple of guys on the tunnel run and they seem pretty decent. I won't name names though, as I'm rapidly 'going off them' for various different reasons! (You know who you are!)

If you had £50,000 you had to spend in 72 hours, how would you choose to spend it?
It would start with a quick Gtv purchase, followed by a few mods before turning to my current spider. Then a quick trip to the Jeffrey-West store in Picadilly for several pairs of shoes, a couple of watches, some completely pointless technology (geek), I’d hunt out an orrery, get some diamonds for Mrs Diablo (and probably a trip to her favourite lingerie shop – hurrah!) and finish off booking a very long holiday somewhere. Yeah I like spending money… that should take care of 50K!

Re: Sketches amongst the ruins of my mind

...just thought I'd better add that my comment about those who I have met on tunnel runs and 'going off' was just me trying a cheap dig! Obviously I'm not really going off anyone.... :-)
