I'm the newbie!
Just registered and looking to see what is what in the Alfa community. I used to own Alfas in my younger days, but not at the moment, I guess that I must be hankering after another one as I have just registered for this forum!!!
Used to own:
1978 – Alfasud ti 1200cc in Coral red, my first Alfa bought it in 1981 from its first owner and kept it until it was written-off in 1994. It had been wax oiled from new and did not suffer the tinworm so badly, still I replaced both doors and the front wings with Fibre-glass jobs and my own re-spray, at least it was all the same colour. Then I swapped the 1200 for a 1500 but kept the 1200’s gearbox, it really moved after that. Shame it was written off.
1982 – Guilletta 1800cc. In silver. This went really well for a 4 door saloon and really p*ssed of the 2 litre Capri boys at the time. Strangely enough this also got written off, the ex-wife had someone pull out on her and they hit every panel on the driver’s side, after that she couldn’t give a toss and backed it into a lamppost, parking by touch. I had this whilst I had the Sud ti, but the Sud out lived it.
1984 – Alfetta GTV 2000cc in Ivory. Really nice car looked absolutely stunning when clean, nice alloys etc. The ex and I had this for our regular transport for about 4 years until one day there was more rust than metal and before it became a pile of ferric oxide on the driveway we sold it to a local specialist for parts.
1988 – Alfa Sprint Green Cloverleaf 1500cc in Red. I bought this for a little weekend car as we had moved onto a Cavalier Sri to be sensible and run the sprog around in. In the end the Cavalier nearly destroyed my spirit and I wangled a weekend Alfa for driving to and from my Cricket matches, and interestingly my little girl preferred it to the Cavalier and would want a ride out in the “Ralfie”, aren’t kids great? When I bought it needed a little bit of work but once I was finished it sounded sweet, looked the part and went well. Believe it or not this is the only Alfa I have sold on!!
What happened next? Honda CRX followed by a Porsche.
I look forward to hours of Alfa chat and I suspect a subconscious search for the right Alfa!
