Re: Computer error after cats removal
Hi Guys, unfortunately the computer errors had NOTHING to do with the cats' removal !!! The local Alfa Dealer was fast asleep in diagnosing the problem. One should always follow up on all the computor errors to determine what the reason for it is. In my case the errors showed "misfires" in cylinders 1,3,5. They just resetted the computer, saying it was wrong timing and it was due to "modifications", i.e. the new Unichip / cats removal. This was incorrect. I took the car to Goch & Coopers and they checked the plugs - they were wet with oil ! The verdict was that the valve stem seals were worn, thereby causing oil to be sucked into the combustion chamber while decelerating. This caused the plugs to misfire and the computer to report the error ! Since the front 2 cats were still in place, one would never see the car smoking as the oil is completely burnt by the cats. Now I will have to remove the engine to overall the tops. It gives me an opportunity now to gasflow the tops, and to remove the remaining 2 cats in front. I will let you know how that exercise went. Cheers, Hendrik.
