Well on the principle that you cannot consider yourself a true petrolhead unless you have owned an Alfa I have gone and bought a 2004 Alfa GT 1.9JTD. Advice from friends against buying one seemed to center around the Alfa reputation for unreliability but a) the GT does not seem to have exceptional reliability issues and b) with a car that good looking who cares? I traded in my Volvo V70R AWD which was giving me 15-16mpg so I'm looking forward to some extra cash every month.
I also have a Triumph TR7V8 powered by a 4.6 litre Rover V8, T5 gearbox, Granada Cosworth IRS with LSD and its lightened to a shadow of its production self (800 kilos) in which I built from sratch and compete in sprints and hillclimbs.
I'm looking forward to Alfa ownership.
