A year ago I changed my 156 TS (2000 model) for a 156 JTS (2005 model). Alfa Australia recommend that the timing belt etc be changed every 3 years/60K kilometres and I have just had this done at 50K. Now my mechanic tells me that the JTS can be afflicted with "soft cams" i.e. they wear out prematurely, not a scenario with the TS model - and I thought that Alfa had stopped passing out the development role to owners!
I would be interested to know what you have heard about this potentially expensive problem.
By way of background, I have been an owner of the marque since 1970. Mainly 105 series, but including one of each Sud, 33, and 116 Giulietta. So I am used to regular servicing and maintenance requirements. Clearly I am hooked and do appreciate the modern Alfas style and performance.
