me, myself: waller intros self
New to this post old to Alfa. At age 17 I purchased
A 1957 giulietta for $400. It took me everywhere, including a epic 17 hour drive, in the rain. To woo my future wife. Epic? Yes indeed; I'd bought it in Santa Cruz Cal w/o any top whatsoever. Hey, we were in a drought--who needed no stinkin' hood, top, whatever.
It was red and in my callownesss I carefully did all the prep and had a guy shoot it in. . . Corvette metallic British racing Green. A moment of silence for it's formerly red coachwork. Man, I thought it was the greatest! Ah, youth. I am the same fellow who didn't buy the $35,000 Victorian in Santa Cruz, got out of the wine making business in 1970 (no future in it), the guy who loaned Steve Jobs and his shadow, Mr. Wozniak, a Sony Trinitron--and didn't join them in their garage enterprise, which became, another drumroll, Apple. To complete the trifecta I sold the Alfa and got a brand-new MGB. It had a top. Which was stored in bags in the trunk. A step Up? I thought so at the time. Hopefully my very first car is in a concours ready state in some very fine garage. As for myself, I never got into the oracle business--so don't ask me about the economy, because I think we're on the way. . . argh, my neck, you're choking me. . .
