Always one to do as I am told, Hi Everyone!
Although a new member here, I am on my 3rd Alfa in succession (and that tells you something), the sequence being 2.0 TS 156, facelift 2.4mJet 156 & currently a 159 2.4mJet and my favorite of all 3. This may be because I am now of an age (mid 50's - stop s******ing at the back there!) where I'm starting to place a value on refinement over outright performance BUT - I'm following the sticky fuel consumption thread with interest. I'm averaging 31 -32 (did get to 35 once with long & legal motorway journeys) & whilst this 159 sure can't be said to be short on zip it does sometimes feel 'heavy' ... probably 'cos it is.
You can't wack this car for the 'look back after parking' factor though - she is lovely.
Had her for over a year now - had the 'windscreen trim greased-up to stop the creak' thing & the 'replace PAS fluid to stop awful noise in cold weather' thing done (both by Monza Sports in West Sussex - an excellent company by the way) & swapped the dipped bulbs for Osram Nightbreakers (on second set 'cos 1st set melted the glass envelope of the bulb ... waiting on events on 2nd set with interest)
- big improvement in light output even over Phillips Silver Star , but is otherwise std.
Apart from relatively poor fuel consumption compared to the 156 2.4, this is a much superior car & I love it! I did recently have occasion to drive my son's BMW120d and was impressed with the cornering ability (rear wheel drive of course) and refinement in NVH terms, but still would not give up the 'character' of Alfas.
Anyway, for now ... Hallo!
