Clunky gear box Alfa 159
I'm new to this forum so do bear with me if i'm writing about a previously discussed topic.
Anyway I bought 2nd hand still under warranty 159 1.9jtdm with 41k on the clock. Is it my car but the gear box is really stiff, clutch is equally heavy, I didn't think much of this until I drove my old 156 (which I sold to a friend) and wow what a difference, everything seemed smoother; gears, steering, clutch and brakes as well. I know the two cars cannot be directly compared, the 159 is a bigger heavier car, it's not the 'sport saloon' that was the 156 but can the gear change feel like you're driving a tractor!
Is this an issue I should take up with ARUK whilst still in warranty?
Lastly does anyone else think the diesel noise is more intrusive than other diesels. I drove the company's pool car a 1.9 diesel Vauxhall Vectra (I know, I know- unforgiveable). Anyway I believe this 55 reg car has the 8 valve fiat/alfa diesel (120bhp) also available in the 159 (in some markets) yet again the engine noise was far more muted almost petrol like. Is it possible that the more powerful 150 1.9 diesel suffers as a result of the extra bhp pushed out from essentially same unit using turbo and extra valves to achieve this at the expense of refinement.
