Very Happy with my 159
Hi, just came across this site while searching for advice on a problem (minor issue given how happy I am with my car).
I bought a 159 JTDM in July and have put 22k (km) on the clock; we look for any excuse to drive it!
We had a 1980 GTV2000 when first married but traded it for a boring sedan in 1986 when our first child was born; couldn't fit the baby capsule in the back seat (was overcome by a rush of paternal maturity that I subsequently was able to suppress and our daughter grew up with pictures of our previous child to remind her of what we gave up for the sake of her 4 months in the capsule).
With both kids leaving home last year we went searching for fun driving again, first looking at BMWs (323s/325s, sedans and coupes) but were disappointed, they didn't offer the excitement we had pined for over the past 20 odd years.
Then went to the local Alfa dealer and drove a 159 diesel. To the initiated, you will understand that we were blown away (no pun intended) and our lives changed.
In looking at an Alfa we were reconciled to the expected problems of mechanical unreliability and build quality, with quirky faults, poor fitting trim, etc.
Wow, what a transformation Alfa has gone through since our GTV experience... now you get the exciting driving experience PLUS a great quality, civilised and inviting cabin! The trim fit and leather quality is awesome, and the driving position is perfect (I was expecting pedals to one side wheel to the other and so on).
After 6 months and quite a few miles I still find myself telling my wife, Sheryn, how much I love the driving position and just driving our 159.
Could rave on for a lot longer than you probably have patience for... but I think you get the picture...
PS: I'm sure BMW drivers don't experience the blatant stares and looks of lust/admiration/envy that we get in our 159! We chose wisely.
