I have drifted into the world of Alfa as a result of an accident. My last car was written off after it left the road on a bend that was slick with mud and frost.
Once I was able to drive again a friend loaned me his 156 Sportwagon which has been sitting idle for a while (he prefers a more sedate vehicle these days and his partner doesn't like manual gearboxes). Must say, I liked the experience of driving the Alfa enough to enquire whether he was thinking of selling it and it turned out he was.
We agreed a price but in looking through the paperwork my friend discovered that the MOT had run out. I took it for its test and unfortunately it failed. So currently it is in for new discs, tyres and upper and lower suspension arms. The mechanic, who knows the car of old and has owned four Alfas himself, said the car is a good'un (apart from these faults of course) and so I'm going ahead with the purchase - we've renegotiated the price to reflect the repair costs.
All very tantalising. Here I am, no car for the weekend but the weather is horrible so perhaps that's not a bad thing. In the meantime i am pleased to have come across this site on the net and have already gleaned a lot of useful information from the forum. I look forward to being a member of this community. Cheers.
