All about Moi
I bought my slightly used (2001) 2L Sportwagon Selespeed when we left Sunny Florida (sic) to retire in the South of France almost a year ago, and I'm loving both of them!
Fact is, I owned the car before actually seeing it (or any other Sportwagon, for that matter). I bought her "sight unseen" over the Internet while we were still in the States so that we'd have something roomy enough to haul my (rather large) dog and my wife's (very large) luggage from Paris to the Pyrenees. It was, after all, a station wagon, right?
The minute I saw the car, I knew that Mozart (the dog) would get the back seat all to himself, and that most of my wife's luggage would get shipped...
Some "station wagon"! Granted, I wasn't exactly expecting a Buick Regal, but apparently, riding around in an Escalade for 3 years had made me loose all sense of proportion.
The good part is that she drives and rides like a dream, looks terrific, and gets fabulous gas milage to boot!
I'll admit that the robotic gearbox took a little getting used to, but by the time I'd found my way out of Paris about 1,000 km later (I now have a GPS), I had it pretty much under control. It took me a while to loose the tendancy to let off the gas when up-shifting, and to realize that the higher you rev it, the faster it shifts, but all in all, as long as you stay on the highway and away from cities or tight mountain roads, it's quite nice.
As far as reliability is concerned, and aside from loosing that silly plastic oil pan cover on a railroad crossing, I haven't had a single problem with her in the 16,000 km I've added to the 74,000 she had on the clock to begin with. Like they say in these here parts, que du bohneur !
