Alfa's in Thailand
I've just registered as a member and want to introduce myself.
I'm British by birth, lived in various countries around the world (Scotland, England, USA, Czech Republic and a short time in PRC [Beijing]). Now I'm in my 60's, retired from business and living in Hua Hin, Thailand (on the coast about 200km south of Bangkok). I currently own a Ford Escape V6 3L (an SUV) plus a Ford Focus 1.8L Ghia. Both are good cars but so boring!
Loved Alfa's all my life: my first was a 1972 1600 GT Junior which I had to sell (most reluctantly), when I got a company car. Most recent Alfa was a 2001 2.5L V6 156 which I sold when I moved to Thailand in late 2003.
Alfa's here are very expensive (lots of import tax). For example I believe the 159 has just been introduced here (top of the range model is a 2L JTS), priced at Thai Baht 3.8 million - that's about £58,000 Sterling!
So I'm now looking for something second hand and more within my price range. Just seen advertised by a dealer in Bangkok a 1972 AR GTV 1750 at a price of about £5,500 (Sterling equivalent). Looks ok from the photo's but I'm worried about spare parts and rust of course.
Anybody got any experience or advice about owning Alfa's in Thailand.
Regards to all
