Re: giving it serious thought
Hi Big Wull. Back again. Site could be addictive! Looking at your postings. Further pointers with my y reg 156. Battery and exhaust still originals. Normal service at local non alfa garage arounf £100. Change of belts by alfa time served mechanic quoted at 4 hours work- remember main bottom pulley has to come off for this and they are notorious for the alloy rusting onto steel shaft, even if the engine protector is still in place! Fuel gauge consistently takes about 2 miles to reach correct reading on mine. Had a problem with engine management light coming on- took it to auto electrician who reset and took money off me. returned few days later as it came on again. He put it on computer and reset again stating he had cleaned out air intake but fault codes do not give a definate cause of problem. Fell out with him as his attitude was "It's an Alfa. How much do you want to spend? Any way finally spoke to a real auto e and he knew his stuff- stating that it was normally mass air meter on air intake. Replaced a year ago- no further prob. (£85 with free fitting). Apart from that , supberb. Finally if you have a sony radio , don't leave the clock display on as I only had the car only a week when I took a heart attack. When I looked at the car a fortnight later the battery was flat due to this! I may add that I was not driving the Alfa at that time!!!!!
