Alfa 147 04 reg Cam Belt
My Cam Belt went on the 16th July, and was told by Alan Gibson Alfa Romeo, Basingstoke, that the cost would be £2000 to repair as it had damaged the valves and the pistons. The manager explained to me that the cam belt was meant to be changed at 36,000 miles or 3 years, at my last service (mine has done 40,000). I have 3 months remaining on my warranty, and he said that the repair could be done under warranty if I had the invoice from my last service, which was at Allams in Epsom, Surrey.
Having phoned Allams to ask for this invoice, they responded by asking me to bring the car to them, which seemed a little odd as if they had the invoice, all they had to do was fax it to Alan Gibson. This seemed silly as I work 10mins from the Basingstoke garage and I would have to have the car towed back to surrey.
I asked Alan Gibson to call them, and it later unravelled that Allams had 'forgot' to replace the cam belt at the 3rd (36,000mile) service. Alan Gibson managed to arrange for them to pick my car up and have them pay for the negligent service.
Allams were unhelpful, have not offered me a courtesy car, and their communication with me has been appaling. It is now 12 days since the unfortunate events, and they still have my car, and I haven't been contacted at all to keep me informed.
How long does a cam belt repair take? I heard from Alan Gibson that it was 10 hours normally, so why would they have my car for 12 days??!!
Avoid ALLAMS, EPSOM, like the plaque.
