Hi All. Just to introduce myself a little. I've always fancied an Alfa and was thinking of a new 147 Sportwagon... somehow I ended up with a 1992 Minari Mk2 Road Sport instead!
For anyone not familiar with these, it's a British kitcar using Sud/33 running gear. A GRP monocoque uses multiple attachment points to accomodate the whole Alfa frontend, subframe/crossmember and all.
Mine is quite a rare one, being based on the 1.7 16v 33.
Initial impressions. I love the engine! Waited far too long for this. I seem to be drawn to boxer engines. In the past I've had a Beetle, Citroen Ami Super and BMW motorbike. Currently I also have a Citroen Mehari. So flat twins/fours are for me - plus v-twin bikes...
Few issues and gremlins to resolve. The electric windows don't work, the cockpit fresh air vents aren't connected and there is no hood, so a hardtop is fitted. Which all adds up to a mobile sauna! Most fo this to be addressed shortly, although the hood is more difficult to procure.
It had a top end rebuild after a snapped cambelt lead to a bent valve. Big bills... about the same as I paid for it in fact. This should mean that a service is not really necessary right now, but I plan to do one anyway, so that I know where we stand.
Major issue right now is the steering. It uses the power rack, but there is a problem. Sometimes after turning the wheel, it sticks when unwinding the lock. This is more than a little disconcerting! Taking it to Clovertech for them to have a look at it. I bought some new track rod ends anyway, as the previous owner thought he'd damaged on of them on re-fitting, so they can fit those too.
Otherwise just looking forward to thrashing it around this summer. Just got to avoid the humps, bumps and potholes, because ground clearance is zero!
That's all for now
