Hi my name is Tony and I am a recent owner of an Alfa Romeo - GTA 2003 model. I confess, I wasn't looking for an Alfa but I saw this one, gave it a test drive and I was hooked and bought it. I don't know why - I read about Alfa's reliability record and quirks - but I forgive its shortcomings because its such a fun car to drive. I have two pressing issues to resolve :-
1) An annoying squeak from the suspension when I turn LH corners and some small bumps in the road. It seems to disappear in the wet, which suggests possibly a lubrication problem (couplings/bushes?). Thoughts anybody?
2) After a service (just under 50,000miles) - essentially an oil change and general look over, the mechanic showed me the Alfa Romeo policy change of reducing the replacement of the timing belt and tensioner from 72,000 to 36,000 miles. He also said that I should change the water pump at the same time - preventative maintenance and saving of overall cost if I should have a water pump failure at a later date. I am now looking at a bill of ~850 GBP for what is described as routine maintenance. I know that this is cheap when considering an engine re-build (2500 GBP) after a timing belt failure..but ...any comments on making me feel better about this?
