Being all new here - and far away from most you - I'd better introduce myself. I've been leeching off the lumps and nuggets of experience in here for a long time, and last weekend it finally happened: Keys in hand and 1400 kilometers of undisturbed driving bliss from Germany to southern France as the third owner of a 2003 156 1.9 jtd Sportwagon.
After three years working in Germany I've had the chance to drive almost every German car know to man. Well, at least those with mortal price tags. But _none_ of those have put a grin on me like the Alfa! Everywhere I go now is just... too short.
Oilconsumption seems to be fairly in check - .5l in the last 2500 km and cambelts, pumps and turbo are close to new. The brakes bite much better than what I feared from following the posts in here, although they change their feel a lot depending on weather.
..and it had the ususal clunks and squeeks, but fingers crossed, new upper wishbones on the front will sort this.
Last bit missing is a new air vent cartridge for the rear centre console... that one just couldn't be revived.
All in all, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone - following the ropes in here really sold me way before I ever sat in the car
