Re the guy who asked about gear box problems. I too owned a 147 51 and found difficulty in selecting 3rd gear. First of all I had it oiled and the links changed. However, I realised that this did not really solve the problem. I asked about having the gearbox changed and a new gearbox was going to cost £3000! I asked about a reconditioned box and it came down to £1800 an an unguarenteed second hand one came down to £1200 with labour included.
Quite a lot of us have been through that mate, I can't believe Alfa haven't realised that certain components in the 147 gearbox system are JUNK and offered free replacements regardless of age. There are so many of us who have had the exact same problem.
EDIT: Actually I can believe it Alfa are **** at customer service.
