Hello to all fellow Alfa males (Alfettes too)
I recently purchased my first Alfa at the end of last year, a 1999 156 T.S 1.8 in red. I was very pleasantly surprised with the cars handling and performance !!!!! Never thought I'd get this much fun from an 1800. AS you all are aware by now this thing goes round corners as if it were on rails.
I have just finished a top end rebuild. New head set, water pump, thermostat, valves lapped and timing belt kit. The old gal has done 99k and when I lifted off the head I was in store for another shocker. The bores still have the honing marks present and no wear at all showing on any of the bores. When the valves were removed they were as clean as a whistle with no carbon build up at all. Just a quick wire brushing by hand and the valves were ready to hit the lapping stick.
All in all, I'm very pleased with my little red beastie and earlier this evening I took the old gal out for a test drive, she went rather well and was very happy with her. Just as well as I've spent enough on her in this past week
There are 3 areas of concern and if they ever go belly up I wont even bother to do the repairs myself I'll just chuck her at some poor unsuspecting fitter and let him suffer instead. The power steering pump, the alternator and the starter motor all of which I had a good look at when i had the head off ans seems an almost impossibe task to replace them. I'm sure some one out there in Alfa land will tell me it's a walk in the park n I have nothing to worry abt cause the jobs a doddle. Well not with my mits it aint
as mine aren't what you would call dainty in any shape or form !!!!
To finish off, I have read a few threads and all have been very informative and interesting to say the least and look forward to being an active member of this site for many years to come.
All the very best to you all
