New 156 V6 owner, Kent

Hi all!

Last night I picked up a red 2.5 V6 6-speed 156. Hurrah!

Bad news: despite a perfect test drive the brake pad light came on during the drive home (no biggie but the pads have plenty of meat on them? Brakes feel rubbish though so may need bleeding?) More importantly, fourth gear crunches unless you're really gentle with it (didn't do it on the test drive!! I'm guessing it's the selector fork - god knows how much that will be to fix??)

Good news:
Recent cambelt/tensiorers and water pump
Recent clutch (still under waranty for a year)
Recent OEM Lambda and MAF sensors
Sportspack 2
Engine is super-sweet

Thanks guys!

I'm based in the ghetto that is Gravesend

Once I've got 4th gear sorted I'll be looking at GTA-style lights, then a panel filter, silenced de-cat pipe, etc, etc.

Re: New 156 V6 owner, Kent

Welcome from a fellow Kent dweller (near Sittingbourne). I feel your pain.

Re your issues - brake pad light wire could be frayed & shorting on the hub, causing the light to come on. Whip off the front wheels, and take a good look at the pads & the cables - you can disconnect them if you're capable of checking your own pad depths

With the gearbox, I'd suggest changing the gearbox oil - I've just had mine done and it's made a huge difference to the gearchanges. Mine cos £750 though (but I did get a free clutch & driveshaft included)

Re: New 156 V6 owner, Kent

Thanks guys, thats great help.

I think it may well be the syncro on 4th gear. I've been told it's possible to change it individually so I'll investigate that.

Regarding the brakes, thanks for the info Paddy! I'll get the front wheels off asap and change the gearbox oil too. Do you recommend any brand/grade in particular? Obviously I'll consult the owners manual too.

I gave it a good wash today and in fact the paint is a deep red, not a faded orange. Similarly, the wheels are silver and not black! Hopefully we'll have nice weather over the weekend so I can perform fluid changes and give the car the Meguiars '3-stage' treatment

I think I may well have to order a Ragazzon unsilenced de-cat and centre pipe too (with the standard backbox I think) I've found a carbon intake on the Autodelta website but I need to investigate the GTA mod. I definitely want to keep an OEM-style airbox arrangement - should help with cylinder filling on an n/a engine. I know these will most likely offer minimal performance gains and lots more noise but that's fine with me
