Hi we own a 147 selespeed, purchased new in 2002 via the internet (Oneswoop at a great saving), which has now done 61k trouble free miles. Until now just needed tyres, pads and an occasional bulb but now has just got Engine failure light, car stopped and now only sounds like it is spinning the starter motor and not engaging the flywheel, hence joining this forum. The great enlightenment is the fact there are so many references to the battery as the problem and since this one is six years old it must be the first port of call, will let you know how it goes.

Thanks for the welcomes, yes it is the original battery but the indicator gave OK green, voltage was a bit low so did try jump leads to ensure full voltage. However local dealer confirms once the yellow engine light occurs needs a diagnostic reset to clear. Also the spinning starter is normal too as ECU won't allow soloniod to engage (a bit like moving the ignition key to AVV postion when the engine is running). Will let you know the outcome as in at the dealers now (I checked the cambelt was in one piece so some semi relief).
