Thinking of getting a Brera

Hi everyone,
Just need convincing Brera is a good buy, have test driven 2.2 jts, well impressed, I like it, but reliability and depreciation issues need addresing to convince me. Test reports of the diesel suggest unfavourable handling performance compared to the 159! could this be the weight of the diesel unit? cant find a road report on the petrol version. Anybody any thoughs.

Re: Thinking of getting a Brera

Hi there. The 2.2 does seem to have
been the most reliable unit so far....

It's not got the power or torque of the
V6 or the JTD but it's fairly useful once
wound up a bit.

It has got a flaky pull-away though.

Handling and ride are good. And
is much preferable to my previous
147, even on 18 inch wheels.

You'd probably need to do a back-to-back with
a 159.... The Ti perhaps?

3.2 brera

Re: Thinking of getting a Brera

Go for it.
I've had my Brera for a year or so now, & reliability has been no worse than my mates Audi A3 over the same time. Minor niggles, including the drivers seat moving slightly, covered by warranty, the alarm occasionally doing its own thing, & the petrol tank being hard to fill to the brim. This may be an issue particular to the 3.2, & not relevant to your chosen model though. Other than that, the build quality & feel is right up there with the usual German marques. Its very well built, finished, & quality of interior fittings & plastics is superb.
The weight issue is a complaint quite often mentioned, & there are rumours of some lighter weight Breras coming out soon. The weight may be a corollary of the extra build quality & feeling of solidness, compared to Alfas of old?
I don't know much about the diesel units, but I'm sure others here will help out in that area.
The minor niggles I've mentioned are FAR outweighed by the enjoyment of ownership I have.
Matt.

Re: Thinking of getting a Brera

Can only agree with what Manicatel says. Mines a 2.2 and yes it is a bit heavy but the quality of the product is reflected in its weight. Once going, it satisfies my needs in terms of speed. The best bit about Brera ownership is that everyone looks at it and wonders what it is. Admiring glances, and exclusivity, make the ownership worthwhile. Yep, there have been a few little niggles but nothing more than you would expect.

Brera 2.4 JTD SV

Re: Thinking of getting a Brera

I agree, go for it!
I have the 2.4 diesel and its great. There are niggles as noted elsewhere on the site, but these will most likely be fixed under warranty; the enjoyment (and looks) factor far outway these.
Fuel consumption seems to be an issue on all new Alfa models - I get about 33-34 mpg (22,000 miles).

Re: Thinking of getting a Brera

I've had 20,000 kms in a 3.2 and it went for it's service today. Only niggle was water not coming out of the rear window washer. Other than that the car is a joy to own and drive.

Of course I'd recommend it.

Re: Thinking of getting a Brera

Isn't the Brera currently in the top ten of the slowest depreciating cars in this country at the moment?

So depreciation shouldn't be an issue either.

It certainly is and the spider is doing even better and stuffing the Z4 with quite a lot less depreciation.
