Hi, I'd have the 147 over a golf too, not only because I've dragged a GTIMk3 and a VR6 (on a trailer) behind my 146 (better than a 147 anyway) across the Highlands several times, but when I had my VR6 and GTIs they were nothing but money pits, once you get an Alfa there is no real need to upgrade anything. They drive like a dream and in my last 10 years with Alfas I've only had one problem, and that was abelt snapping on a very high milage 155, Thing was going in for scrap anyway so I didn't care.
